People in Guildford could be forced to have afternoon deliveries as bosses mull over ways to save costs at Royal mail. (http://www.royalmail.com)

A possible disappearance of one of the night shifts is an option apparently which means that the post wont' be ready first thing.

This will surely have an impact on not only people but businesses - how many people rely on the post to bring them money/sales/etc.etc.etc. it could affect loads of surrey jobs (http://www.careers-jobs.eu/surrey-jobs) not at least for the poor posties who will no doubt pay the price for this change.

Nothing yet has been agreed completely but the service that has been going downhill for years is now adding to the distrust of what used to be such a fantastic institution :(

This does not sound well thought out at all!

If there is no afternoon service or sorting it would end in disaster! You pay £4.95 for a next day delivery or £10.85 if you want it delievered before 9am!! (And more if it is a heavy item!) If these aren't sent on time the Royal Mail has to refund you - imagine how much money they will lose if these services cannot be maintained?

I must say though - it is unsuprising to see the postal service breaking apart. With the choice of a 39p stamp or a free email it is clear what people would prefer. The need for post has really decreased.. I am suprised they aren't totally gone!

Does the royal mail offer any other services?
My sister was chatting to a postman the other day and apparently he keeps being asked to do overtime. I think they need to create a few more postman jobs if this really is the case!
