Have you guys heard the Guildford (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Guildford) housing plans? It is insane! How many houses do you think could be fitted in the countryside stretching between West Clandon and Burpham? Did 8500 spring to mind?
I was proud of the council for launching legal action against the planners! Although this move would create lots of construction jobs in Surrey (http://www.careers-jobs.eu/surrey-jobs)and possibly benefit local businesses, the damage would surely outweigh any of this? It is clear that the views of local residents have been completely ignored. The council have rejected it on the environmental implications but surely this goes far beyond environmental implications? What about the traffic for one thing? Over 8500 cars added to the roads of Surreyâ?¦
I wonder how the court will view this â?? I would be disgusted if this goes ahead. Do the council not have the power to fully reject the plans themselves? What control do councils have?
I agree Emily, its better to keep what we have left of our open green fields, surely they can build these houses somewhere else or just spread them out more evenly?

Spot on Lilly - that is what came to my mind. I personally think the south-east should be left alone for the time being. The government keep pushing for more housing but surely we will run out of space?
When there is more space in the Midlands and up north I do not understand why they insist on building in the south. Why pick on us? I do wonder if the north are facing destructive contruction plans too.

i can't believe they are going to fit so many houses in such a small space - guildford will soon lose its leafy green appeal as its rammed already. the government want to sort themselves out and redevelop derelict areas rather than just go for the greenbelt. the south of england is so chokka block with cars as the average house has 2 cars thats 16000 more vehicles in an area that already has congestion. and if anyone reads that a congestion charge will be put in the town then let me know - i'll have to deed poll my name as Guy Fawkes and start plotting! hahahahaha :)

Haha - and now there are all these 'human rights' we won't be killed or humiliated at the end of it either ;) We will probably just end up with community service! Sounds like a plan Chezza!
It seems like they are really quick to build new estates and few people move in to them! Or so my previous experience has proved. I am sure most people will be staying put for the time being. Maybe by the time houses are built the economy will be recovering. Do you know what housing prices are like at the moment?

to be honest i haven't really looked - but the costs have fallen a bit. most people i know are staying put unless they have to move for work etc... i asked for a valuation on my house to make sure i wasn't in negative equity and in 3 years our house is £10k more than when we bought it.phew! ;) sign of the times though - we had 4 estate agents in lightwater and one of them has disappeared now. :(
I know I will rather rent than move into a new house that has (from the start) created negative press...I will constantly look over my shoulder for the angry mob of protesters hehe..but then again if the damage is done we might as well do the community a favour and live in these houses after they have caused all the drama...having the houses be empty like Emily says will just make everyone mad all over again!!!!

Normally I would have agreed with you folk, BUT due to the Labour government been absolutely hell bent on allowing thousands upon thousands of asylum seekers and immigrants to flood into this country we now have the biggest housing shortage EVER.
What is the point of everyone squeaking that there's NOT ENOUGH HOUSING when planners are constantly obstructed every time because of folk like you who object and block such plans going through?
We're now in the 21st century our population is increasing faster than our infrastructure can cope with. We DESPERATELY NEED NOW:
* More towns
* More businesses
* More jobs
* More hospitals
* More dentists
* More GP surgeries
* More public transport i.e. bus routes, train lines - new stations
* More roads
* More schools
* More post offices
You can't just stick your heads in the sand and hope that all these problems will go away and harp on about conserving a few fields and trees. IF you drive around the UK you will see first hand that we've millions upon millions of acres of 'nothing'. There is more than enough room for all the above to be 'built' and in such a way that it won't destroy the environment.
Sadly you've got to think ahead to the future - our grandchildren and their children - we cannot NOT build essential services for our expanding population.
Something HAS TO BE DONE like it or not. Unless of course the other solution would be to send all the immigrants and asylum seekers back that have entered this country since the beginning of the Blair administration. At least for a short while we'll have a huge amount of social housing free'd up - jobs will become available again and Britain will be 'ours' again.
Gone will be the enforced 'multi-cultural multi-racial' society that Labour is DETERMINED to shove down our throats to the detriment of this country's overall wellbeing.
So - what's it going to be then ladies? Wise up and catch up with what is desperately NEEDED for this country to 'grow' or close your eyes and pretend its not happening and it will all go away if you keep on saying NO to new developments :confused:
