Hi everyone

I’m so proud of Surrey being first with low-carbon busses. Apparently the launch was last week Wednesday and Lord Mandelson attended it and everything…don’t know how I missed all of it. I don’t have a car but make use of public transport DAILY so it’s great to know that 300 busses, starting in January will be these new low-carbon busses.
The Guardian says the Gov will create 1.2m “green jobs” by 2020, how fantastic is that?
It is a brilliant idea to combine the UK’s promise to cut carbon emissions with job creation because both these issues are huge at the moment!

Things can surely only get better?
Cheers
Lilly

That is good to hear. I live in Surrey and several months back they invested in new buses (which are more luxurious like coaches) so I don't know if they will be introduce more into our area.
Are these busses in a specific area of Surrey?

I read a really good report a few days ago about what was defined as a 'green job'. Before I just post a link to the article, what do you guys define as a green job? :D

Nope, seems to me the busses are going to be over the entire Surrey. There are 300 of them.
Have a read through the article if you like:

I think my opinion of a green job….
Will either be at a factory making low-carbon cars or busses or being the driver of a green bus or probably just being involved with a project that is “green”. I hope some of these jobs (http://www.careers-jobs.eu) are in other sectors too because I think it will be something interesting and inspiring if you are part of it.
I do try my best to assist the environment.
What are your methods of implementing your personal “green” bit in your day-to-day life?
Please send your link I would love to see what the actual definition is…

Green jobs can also include animal bedding suppliers, slipper makers, wallapaper suppliers haha. I think the government want their figures to look a little higher then they are. Though I will give them credit - most of the jobs are in alternate energy.

The 'green' Emily has a recycling system at home. We regularly drop off our cardboard, milk bottles and foil and Watchmoor Park Sainsburys :p
We had our house built from scratch several years ago and so we know that the windows are double glazed and that proper insulation is in place. But otherwise that is about it. We have no electric car or solar panals!

What about you Lilly?

Haha, I love this sentence:
“The list also includes manufacturers of a bizarre array of products — everything from skylights to wooden pallets and noise insulation materials.”
Well I guess we should be glad that we live in a country that actually tries to assist in the problem – not like other’s who turn a blind eye. I don’t know how people can do that.
Do you think job sites (http://www.careers-jobs.eu) will get a new category now that the term is becoming all the more known?

I am oh so proud of “green-Emily”, luckily you have items in your house that fit the profile, and unlucky for me I don’t have anything in my house that effortlessly helps me contribute to the whole thing. I do however have a compost heap!:D
I’ve come across this website that cites 5 tips taken from an Oprah show (http://www.oprah.com) on how to be more helpful to nature.
They are so easy and obvious but it makes such a huge difference!!! I’m going to start this immediately.

I appreciate you guys (Emily/Lilly) are trying to raise awareness of careers-jobs.eu but there's no need to link to it in every post, thanks :)

Wow I didn't know Surrey was so concious about going Green! These buses are a great idea! Esp if they bring new jobs with them hhee!

Personally I think I try to do my bit - I recycle what I can at hiome and rather than throw clothes out take them to charity shops or the clothing bins in our area!

I don't drive yet but am learning, won't buy a new car though will just share the one my other half has! So thats pretty efficient right?

Did I ever hear plans of special recycling bins being brought to the homes of Surrey? So you have to put your rubbish our seperately into different sections? Maybe they were whispers or I am getting some of my relatives in different counties mixed up

I like to hope that every family can do a little bit each :D

We have a recycling bin and a normal bin and they get picked up on alternate weeks! So yes there are recycling bins in surrey hehe! I have lived in Surbiton and Byfleet and have had them, in different forms, in both places!

Woking has two bins - one for recycling ( paper, card, glass and plasric bottles ) and the other for general waste. The good news is that you no longer have to drive to the local recycling bins, but the bad news is that each bin is collected on an alternating two week time cycle, so the general waste gets pretty smelly in hot weather - when we have it!

Doesn't it just!

When we had the heat in June we ended up actually taking some down to the waste site ourselves as it stunk so much!
