Hi all,
Why all the drama with the market in Dunsfold Park?
I adore markets and think they can sometimes make an area that would otherwise have nothing boosting its allure.
Especially if the stalls provide “quality goods” as the article on Get Surrey (http://www.getsurrey.co.uk/news/s/2055050_dunsfold_park_market_gets_oneyear_approval ) says it will.
One would think that innovations like these that create a platform for the area to lure guests and business from a far as well as creating Surrey jobs (http://www.careers-jobs.eu/surrey-jobs) with its 200 stalls of goodies would get people excited. And yet, there were so many apposed to it. So much so that the market was only approved for 1 year and not 2…
Those who are against the market thinks the traffic will be chaotic but I don’t understand why it’s such a fuss over a market that will only be open on Saturdays and Public Holidays? It’s not as if the entire country will drive though there in a hurry to get to work on these days.

In all honesty…I will definitely go to market on Saturdays and I will make use of public transport as to not get in trouble with those counting the cars backing up the traffic.:p

Markets can give a place some buzz :) Not sure I would travel to go there especially though. Do you know what they are going to be selling? I like stalls that sell fresh produce - fruit and veg. But not so interested in the ones that are trying to sell you mobile phone covers and CDs.

The traffic point is interesting. I wonder if the area is already facing some minor congestion problems and they don't want it to get worse. However you are right though - if it is only open once a day, would it really impact on residents? It wouldn't make you late for work or anything severe.
I must be seen as quite wierd - I don't mind sitting in traffic if there is no rush. For example if I am just going into town I don't mind waiting for a bit. Some people seem to get very impatient (the Mercedes and BMW types). Are we a country that doesn't have 10 mins to spare in a car anymore??

I love markets and agree they can give a place some buzz and bring in business which is great! Think about it you go to a place where there is a market and usually end up having a bite to eat and even wandering around other shops if there are any near! It doesn't just stop at a market does it? Its usually quite a good little attraction and money maker don't you think?

Im like you too - don't mind sitting in a bit of traffic to get into town as I know it will be there! Its normal for the weekend isn't it really? A bit of Saturday traffic shouldnt be an issue in my eyes - esp if it generates business for the area!

That is a fantastic point - other businesses should surely benefit too. The cars will have to park somewhere and if there are any parking charges the council will also benefit. Thats +2 points for having a market. Anyone against it?

All the pro's and cons add up in the end. Will be intersting to see if it gets the go ahead!!
