After many years of uncertainty as to its future, the Civic Hall is finally being demolished. In its place, so I read will be built another theatre.
When I read about this in the Surrey Ad I was surprised. Guildford already has one theatre, why does it need another? What would have been far more use to the public would have been a complex of shops, supermarket and/or large Health Centre with at least 12 GPs plus chemist. Yes horrendous I know to the immediate local private residents but considering the high density of residents who live around that end of the town many of whom are elderly, then this would have been very welcomed.
Guildford boasts only 2 large supermarkets, Tesco which is near the Royal Surrey, Park Barn area and Sainsburys which is sited out the other side of Burpham towards the A3. You need a car to travel to both. Guildford town also needs a decent sized NHS Health centre.
Too late now - instead we'll be getting another theatre :(
