Guildford has a lovely park but I feel is so sadly under-used. The only area out of the vast expanse that is dedicated to the public is in one small corner where a tiny van type cafe is sited. Over all the years I have known Stoke Park it has puzzled me why the council do not allow a decent sized cafe to be built permanently and more of the park to be 'user friendly' for all the family. It seems that money again is the prime objective here charging a fortune to host events such as Guilfest and used as a sports ground during the autumn months and hosting visiting teams.

More trees to be planted and more money poured into developing the park into an area of natural beauty. The sensory garden has always looked so sad and hardly deserves the title 'sensory'. One expects to be met with many delicate aromas - but isn't. There's a bit of lavender here and there true but not much else that smells. Touch? Again, not much of what is planted is 'touchy feely'. The colours also of the plants chosen are dull and washed out. Such a disappointment. So much more could be done in that area alone to make it into an area of beauty and tranquility.

The rose garden is also a disappointment. Over the years the arbour has disappeared and many of the old roses replaced by new. The beds are too formal and the roses a disappointment.

Come on Guildford get it right!
