Just when we thought it would be a good idea for the environment to use public transport more, Surrey County Council have given notice that they are planning to cut services drastically over the coming years. The first areas to be affected are Elmbridge, Reigate and Banstead, Runnymede, Spelthorne and Woking in 2010. Surrey Heath and Tandridge would follow in 2011, with changes made in Epsom and Ewell, Mole Valley and east Waverley in 2012, and the rest of Waverley in 2013.
Initial targets are likely to be school buses and services to rural areas. Bad news for those people who depend on the services and bad news for rural communities in general.
I wonder if there will be any prior consulatation or if they will just go ahead and then wait for the adverse reactions?

I wonder why they are doing this though. Are their profits going down, can they not afford to run high quality services anymore?
If I am honest I reckon the council will just go ahead with their plans. If they did consult with the residents do you really think that they would listen to the views expressed?

Perhaps they are trying to get us all walking... That or they want to make more money on all these pay and display areas they keep creating ;)

No, the council doesn't listen to what the public want. Whatever they want to do they simply go ahead and do it but when the shoe is on the other foot and the public want something then they block you every step of the way.:(
