I know it is early but I've just realised, after coming back from a mini-break with my boyfriend and his 3 brothers, that I desperately need to stop swearing.

So, this is me, Lilly creating a thread to say that this will be my new year resolution. I will go cold-turkey and leading up to the 1st I will start finding replacement words.
Like: Cripes etc...:o

What will be yours?

Haha Maybe I could join you in that and we can see who performs better? Hehe! I am honestly quite bad! I have no idea where or how it started but just that it somehow coincides with me starting uni and such you know? Hehe!

But now years later I still swear as much if not more.... Its part of my everyday vocab and thats not good at all really is it?

Great! Let the word-replacing begin! To be honest, I've already messed up since posting the thread...but in all fairness it isn't 2010 yet...

Exactly we have plenty of time to start practising for the real event hehe!

Lets start with how many times we swear each day haha! Starting tomorrow so start counting and let me know!

I will join you in this, Lilly. I have been trying to cut down on the use of swear words, which I seem to have got into the habit of using too regularly. It not good and you can upset some people without realising it. I'll look forward to improving my use of the English language in 2010.

Cool so now we have three of us! It should be motivation enough right?

I know what you mean about offending some people without meaning to - I often get glared at and wonder what I have done that is so wrong hehe!

Oh, I have failed so desperately already!!! Even my replacement words have gone to shambles as they are swearwords in themeselves...eeek.
How are the rest of you doing?
Also I decided that I want to be more positive this year and stop moaning about stupid things like a) the effect of the weather on my hair b) all my girlfriends getting enganged and married and c)my dad's horrid perseption of me

Hehe not faring well either I am afraid - the only difference is that I am more aware of it but I guess thats a start right?

I want to pass my driving this year and also try and pay off some serious debt lol!

So far so good for me. I have gone official with this over the holidays and told several friends that I am trying not to swear, so I get frequent reminders. Still having problems when I drop things ( or slip on the ice ) and immediately swear. I will keep trying and use some other interesting words that aren't swearwords.

Wow you guys are impressive, it's the best method to tell people cause they hold you accountable...a couple of years back I did a 50p penalty with a work colleague (which I can not spell at the moment eeek) and I lost so much money.
But at least we are thinking about it like josie says...
Good luck guys, especially with dropping things or tripping over things ;)
PS: I find I've been saying "Oh pooo" when something isn't going according to "plan" instead of oh f... (girls could give it a go, however, men using the term might be frowned apon)lol

Hhee I have tried using "Oh poo" before and got even more bizarre looks than when I say "oh S***" lol! I mean gimme a break lol!

Its the replacements that dont come esily - they just dont seem to roll off your tongue as well do they? I mean nothing quite sounds the same or makes you feel as good as the actual words themselves you know!

Hehe! How do you get rid of the feeling associated with the words???? Hmmmmm......

I haven't made a new years resolution in years! Though I think I should start doing more exercise.. Around a year ago I passed my driving test and ever since my legs were exiled. It's quite sad how quickly your body can become out of shape!!

It is quite sad how we can all swear without even noticing it. I too am guilty and words can just slip out sometimes. Those were the days when swearing was really socially unacceptable eh?

Haha Emily-O if I was to make resolution number 2 then it would be to try and exercise more as well! I have put on so much weight recently Grrrrr! Needs to try and get rid of my tyre that is growing around my middle hehe!

I will rather excercise than eat salad everyday. YUCK. Besides it's cold and we need to eat chocolates and warm bread to keep warm inside...Luckily my dog keeps me to his daily walks, so I can't cheat and watch telly after work...nope he looks at me like he's saying: "Get off your fat arse woman" and then drags me around in the park.
I've also started cleaning the house everyday with effort (hoover as if I am doing aerobics) and notice that I haven't put on any weight as a result...it's worth a try...

Haha Lilly that makes me laugh but may indeed be the answer - clean the house each day! I mean it would certainly provide the needed exercise hehe and as you say I will then be able to cut out the salad :D

I unfortunately do not have a dog to walk tho hehe!
