View Full Version : Some Good News for 2010
With all the bad news on jobs in the last year, I was very encouraged to read this on the BBC web site - "Manufacturers are moving production back to the UK amid concerns about poor quality and higher freight costs, a report has said. One in seven companies has moved its manufacturing operations to the UK from abroad in the past two years".
Let's hope this is a trend that UK companies continue to follow, especially on a local basis, to provide new jobs.
Helix that is great news and I do hope that it happens for sure!
I mean with it, it can only bring jobs and money to the area I think - lets hope the trend stays the same for this year and more and more people move back to the Uk - maybre a few of those call centres being back here also would not go amiss haha!
This is very positive news indeed! Let's try and find more of these....I'm fed up with bad news!!!
In contrast to this I saw on the tv this morning something about more and more manufacturers moving out of the UK to other countried and making more and more people redundant?
Worst thing is this was on the BBC this morning?
I must admit Josie I have been hearing similar things about not only manufacturers but companies in general moving abroad because of high rents and the crippling taxes imposed on them by the government.
I read the other day that the UK is trying very hard to get more Indian car manufacturers to open up factories in the UK - but why would they then if our own are moving abroad?
In this case I think the governement is just trying to create more jobs in the UK perhaps in reaction to the problems General Motors are having and the threat of jobs being cut at the Vauxhall plant.
Yeah but if the UK is too expensive for the companies that are already here then why would they want to come here???
First they should try and stop the companies that are leaving us you know? Keep what we have so less jobs are lost and then concentrate on attracting new business!
Obviously if companies are leaving no matter what it is worth it to keep boasting the UK (The Westmidlands in specific) as a fantastic car manufacturing area...but I agree with Josie that if the Government wants jobs for the UK, they should also try to keep manufacturers HERE!!!
Apparently GM will/or are already relaunching Vauxhall ads in Europe, surely this is an attempt to keep the factory open. If the factory closes, especially after everything GM has been through the last several months in order to prevent that from happening - that will be horrid news for the industry as a whole, no?
Lilly it would be terrible! I can't imagine it being otherwise to be honest! I mean what do you think thre chances are of them recovering and being ok>?
I want to be an optimist and say: Very good! But I really don't know actually. I don't think any company is sitting and doing nothing so I'm sure whatever happens manufacturers will know they did what they could. I hope the Government can say the same, they did everything they could...
I think we should find some good news again for this thread, I fear we went all dramatic again eeek!
