The Government has awarded £1.5 mil and SCC will contribute £500K to rectify the situation of Surrey’s roads. Apparently the funding is part of £100mil from the Gov to invest in roads across England. I tend to agree with Dr Povey (http://www.redhillandreigatelife.co.uk/news/8091157.Government_cash_boost_for_Surrey_s_pot_hol ed_roads/) from SCC that the funding is welcomed but that we as a county needs continued investment from the government on our roads.

The roads in Surrey are extremely busy and we experience extreme wet and cold weather more than half of the year. Getting once-off cash is great for the problem at hand but as I see it, our roads need permanent maintenance. When a pothole or any other form of problem rears its ugly head, a team should already be on it.

This way issues will be prevented from getting any bigger and residents of the area won’t be unnerved when huge roadwork developments delay their travel time for weeks on end. As a result I feel it necessary that the Gov invests in our roads and the council employs a team of road repair workers in permanent Surrey jobs (http://www.careersandjobsuk.com/surrey-jobs) to stay on top of road problems.
What do you think?

To be honest Lilly that is something that we could definitely use! Until I saw this I wasn't even aware it wasn't something they had already! It would make sense wouldn't it!

So yes as you say a one off contribution to fix everything up is all good but what about the upkeep of it all! There needs to be something like that for sure! But in all honesty what is the likelihood of these jobs being created?

I'm not too sure...but I do think constant maintenance should be a high priority before it ends up costing more in the long run. The council does use funding and do have a scheme in place, but obviously it is focussed around when it is broken only then fix it. It is hard enough concentrating how your fellow road users are driving, looking out for pedestrians, picking up on all the road signs, keeping to the speed limit...I tend to forget to watch the road surface for any potholes. No wonder my cousin went through a pothole over the weekend. It burst her tyre as she was trying to change tyres, she realised that the whole wheel thingy (I'm not good with cars) has bent in the process and she had to get the car towed...Anyway, I just think more should be done and invested in this problem.

Haha Lilly trust me neither am I! The other day my boyfriend was trying to explain the difference between a wheel and a Tyre to me haha!

I agree with you about the constant maintenance being required! There are some roads near where I live that are absolutely awful! Its like godzilla took a walk down them or something!

Hehe, sorry I sounded like a real girly-girl in that post! The fact of the matter is, it is dangerous. I don't want to think about what could have happened if my cousin wasn't such a slow driver...
Let's hope they put a permanent system in place ;)
