Is it inevitable that 2600 new homes will be built in this remote area? The planning decision should be announced soon, but there will no doubt be appeals. There is still time to make your views known. For all the details visit www.dunsfoldpark.com and for the campaign against visit www.sdpnt.com

Waverley Rejects Masterplan - 17th September 2008

Dunsfold Park’s proposal to build 2,600 houses on the site of the former aerodrome was refused almost unanimously by Waverley planners. Three Lib Dem councillors abstained, the remaining councillors at the meeting voted against the plans. This is a major victory for those campaigning against the proposed New Town.
The key question for Waverley Borough Council’s main planning committee was whether the development should be granted as a justifiable exception to planning policy because it contained 910 much-needed affordable homes.
Waverley’s housing service objected that Dunsfold Park's affordable homes would not necessarily help those in greatest need though, because priority would be given to people on low incomes working on an expanded business park at the site. Serious concern about the wider knock-on effect of a new settlement had been expressed by Surrey County Council, Guildford Borough Council and West Sussex County Council.

Presumably there will now be an appeal, but the current economic climate will no doubt slow the whole process down considerably, especially as one of the partners involved is the Royal Bank of Scotland

Consultant surgeon Professor Chris Marks is the new chairman of the campaign to halt Dunsfold Parkâ??s bid to build 2,600 â??greenâ? homes at the former aerodrome site.
The masterplan application, which triggered 3,000 objections, was refused by Waverley Borough Council last September but the final decision will be taken by the Secretary of State following a public inquiry that starts on March 10 this year.

Current State of Play - from the " Stop Dunfold Park" website --
Public Inquiry now completed – decision to be made by Government Minister by 28 September 2009.
Why is it all happening so fast? Is there a conflict of interest because of RBS’s involvement with Dunsfold Park? Will our roads soon be swamped with more cars? Will local democracy be overridden?

What is wrong with up north? Why can't they overcrowd and create traffic problems somewhere else....
