Council parking plans will kill local businesses

The council proposes to put the machines in Bagshot High Street car park, Watchetts Road car park in Camberley, Burrell Road car park in Frimley and Chobham High Street car park. With the current economic problems this will really harm local businesses.

have they done this? bagshot is hardly shopping central and i can only imagine it will not be helpful for the small shop owners! greed is not a good thing. council needs to sort out its priorities!

I have not used any of these car parks recently, so don't know if they backed off doing it because of the local business and media pressure. Any body else know the situation?

*takes a deep breath* - are you ready? The council want and extra 4% yield through car parking....

They are going to introduce pay and display machines in Chobham, Bagshot, Watchetts Road, Burrell Road and Frimley. They will charge Monday-Friday (excluding bank holidays) 8.00am - 6.00pm

Up to 2 hrs - FREE
2-3 hours - 40p
3-4 hours - 80p
4-5 hours - �£1.20
5-6 hours - �£1.60
6-7 hours - �£2.00
7-8 hours - �£2.40
All day parking - �£2.50

The coucil showed more of a concern in introducing charges to Chobham more than Bagshot or Frimley. Further changes include:
Increase charges to Camberley main Square, Knoll Road (3-6 hours), Sunday charges, and the Camberley library car park.
Freezing charges at the 08/09 rate to Yorktown and on night time charges (in Camberley anyway!)

They estimate an increase profit of �£155K. The installments of the new pay and display machines is estimated at �£31K

Its not that expensive really and if you only want to "pop" to the shops you can easily "do" bagshot or chobham in 2 hours! I'm sure surrey jobs (http://www.careers-jobs.eu/location/surrey-94.html) won't be in jeopardy now phew!

If only all car parks would only cost that much! its �£1.50 for up to 2 hours in camberley and i think maybe more in woking! I'm not sure if the councils own all the car parks but it does seem a good way to make money. also if it stops our council tax going up then i don't know whats best?????

woking is now ( from April) up to 1.10 per hour - which is more than Guildford. it certainly helps to concentrate the mind when you are shopping. you can get a bargain in tk max for less than you pay to park !

Sometimes I think people are unaware of the cheaper parking options. For instance Camberley high street has free parking for as long as you like after 6pm! I have never understood why people will continue to then park in the multi story car park...
I believe my car is safe parked outside the building society (think of the CCTV concentration there) - but then again no one would want to steal my car ;)

It pays to read those little signs! Just like the bus lane on London road - You can use it too just not during rush hour times! When I learnt to drive I was told off for not using it when I could :o

I very rarely go to Bagshot but putting prices up is just go to deter people away

of cause `the increasing park fee will affect shoppers...no one want to spend extra money out of prepared...
