Plans for redeveloping East Street in Farnham have always been met with mixed feelings, however, the East Street Action group may now be getting a more open-minded approach from Waverley council as they appoint a new portfolio holder.

Visit the Farnham Herald website for more information.

The plans have been altered a number of times in an attempt to correspond with what people in the area think would be suitable for Farnham, usually with regards to size and style. Are the plans out of touch? Or could modernisation perhaps be a good thing for Farnham?

What are your thoughts on the issue?

I think Farnham should stay as it is; it's a charming town with character and a nice, old feel to it. Historic towns that remain relatively untouched are becoming rare and it would be a shame to lose them altogether. Large shopping malls and oversized developments are not necessary in every town, as most are a stone’s throw from towns with plenty of shops. Farnham is close to Guildford, Aldershot, Farnborough, Woking and Basingstoke all of which are accessible without too much trouble (either by car or by public transport) and all have excellent shopping areas.
