Airtrack will provide a new rail link to Terminal 5 at the airport, with direct services from Staines, Woking, Guildford and Chertsey.Great news? Well not according to Spellthorne Council who have listed 37 concerns. The debate will take years but BAA will make their first submission early in 2009. Are you for it or against it?

What is the current situation on this? I am in favour of it in principle, as it will get a lot of traffic off the road and make Heathrow more accessible for people in Surrey, but there are no doubt some downsides as well

will they be using existing quieter routes or carving up more of the countryside? its great isn't it that even more resources will ferry people to the airport so more planes will fly and polute the air etc. so we will all have to pay green taxes more and more often. ludicrous!

100% against Airtrack without tunnels to replace the level crossings in Egham. BAA is simply suggesting to cut Egham in two by keeping the several crossings in Egham down up to 44 minutes per hour. This will cut our town in two and create traffic gridlock and guess what... Airtrack trains won't even call at Egham. What could be worse than than! Please join our group on Facebook (search for Egham and Airtrack). A petition has already gathered more than 5,000 signature - please help us to avoid our town getting destroyed by pollution, congestion... Get in touch with BAA, Surrey Council, Network Rail, the Highway agency to fight against such a terrible threat

Public transport and better trains links are good for the environment: 6000 residents of Egham Hythe stuck at the level crossings is not. Airtrack have admitted that if their plan proceeds without a bridge or tunnel in Egham, an EXTRA 5000 cars a day will be stationary at the crossing gates. And they have no intention of providing either. The Application went in last week and we have till 18 September to get enough "Objections" to the Department for Transport asking them to insist on a tunnel or bridge. The facebook group has details
