Did anyone else spot that story about the council stopping Whetherspoons from having their chairs outside after 4pm? Personally I think it's a great idea, I hate trying to walk past these places when they're busy and the pavements are full. Also lots of rubbish :mad:

No I did not see this - do you have a link to it possibly?

Are the chairs outside for smokers or meals (or both)? If you can eat outside I would say 4pm is a little bit too early - it is still nice and warm and would be good to eat outside.

But yes these places are left in a complete mess after nights out - cigarette ends everywhere, wrappers etc.

The good news about tables outside in this sunny weather is that it gives a "continental feel" to the town and the owner should be forced to clear away all rubbish and provide a clear path away from the drinkers - hopefully it would then be an overall positive development

i think its nice to sit outside, personally I find it difficult because many of the people who are outside only do so to smoke, so the benefit of fresh air is often eclipsed by the passive smoke!

I think it maybe a bit contradictory considering the Itallian restaurants let people sit outside past 4 o clock.
